Florida Keys Wild Bird Center

Wild Bird Center

I live very close to Key Largo so we head that way quite frequently.

My favorite place to stop and visit is the Florida Keys Wild Bird Center in Tavernier.

The Bird Center is free to visit but they do have a donation box right at the entrance of the boardwalk so if you can spare some cash, drop it in the box. From owls to falcons and hawks to pelicans, there are lots of birds to admire as you walk along the winding wooden boardwalk that leads to the Florida Bay.

I bring a pair of beach shoes and sometime just wade right into the water looking for shells. While I wade in the shallow waters, my eldest is usually fishing or spearfishing further south in Islamorada. It’s a good trade off, I get to hunt for shells and he usually brings home dinner. Good boy!

You’ll also find clean, air-conditioned restrooms here, which is a pleasant surprise.
